The family grows: meet the new three cylinder Evinrude E TEC G2

The lineup of American outboards expands in the power ranging from 115 to 150 HP. The new 3-cylinder Evinrude E TEC G2 sport the usual very low levels of emissions and fuel consumption.

Evinrude marches on with the two-stroke technology, in which they undoubtedly excel. The company has reached a sort of “state of the art” level that puts their outboards in the top spot (comparison charts, although supplied by the manufacturer) in terms of fuel consumption and emissions. After the launch of the latest generation of E TECs, the 6-cylinder G2s 150 to 300 horsepower, the time has now come for the smaller ones: 1.9 liters, 3 cylinders, in the three powersteps 115, 140 and 150 hp.

Two is better than four

The two-stroke technology with direct fuel injection provides a great torque curve, with high output in real world conditions (in particular from 3000 to 5000 rpm). And since the power is proportional to the torque and the revs, it means that in everyday use the engine delivers more hp, period.

The 3-cylinder Evinrude E TEC G2 integrate technologies such as electronic shift and throttle, iTrim control system, digital gauges, and iSteer dynamic power steering. The 115 H.O. And 140 are also available with tiller control, but a rather sophisticated one since it offers touch troll and trim switches, LED’s for basic diagnostics and an NMEA 2000 connection for integration with external gauges and accessories. As it is with the larger V6s, then, the side panels are immediately recognizable and customizable in colors and graphics.

Another technical feature is the RAVE valve (Rotax Adjustable Exhaust Valve), which veries the exhaust phase timing and the compression ratio in the cylinder. This makes it possible to achieve the excellent torque curve mentioned above, in addition to optimizing fuel consumption and allowing Evinrude E TEC G2 to comply with the most severe emission limits worldwide.

Evinrude G2 E-Tec, that’s what we call a revolution

The oil tank, necessary on a two-stroke engine, contain 7.2 liters which means 50-60 hours of use: a boating season with only one fill up.
Completing the list of features of the new E TEC G2 3-cylinder engine is the absence of break-in phase and a 5-year / 500-hour warranty.
