It’s the smaller sibling of Solaris Power 55, the new creature coming from the minds of Norberto Ferretti, Brunello Acampora and Giuseppe Giuliani. She, too, wants to redefine the lobster boat.
Following the launch of the Solaris Power 55, which sold several units already before the presentation in Cannes next September, Solaris Power is going to introduce a smaller model, with Solaris Power 48 Open. The team behind it is the same, of course, while the boat wants to offer a number of features which are unique in the category of day cruisers.
Playing in the big league
The new 48 Open is a very technical craft, focused on seagoing capabilities, functionality and safety. The latest generation of propulsion system is integrated into the shape of the hull. These features make it possible to take long cruises, even in adverse weather conditions, with safety and extended range. Solaris Power 48 is capable of cruising efficiently at low speed in displacement mode, but can also get into planing and exceed 35 knots.
Given his 50-year experience in boating, Norberto Ferretti gave maximum consideration to comfort and livability, designing an open walkaround that offers almost the same cabin space of a conventional cabin cruiser: the interior layout can sport two cabins, two bathrooms and a crew cabin including toilet. A second layout drops the second cabin for an indoor living area, as northern Europe or American boaters normally prefer.
But Solaris Power 48 has other peculiar features, like the two folding side terraces that increase the cockpit area by 20% when open, or the tender garage which is also a stowage facility.
On the main deck, to bow, there’s a sunbathing area with shaded headrest. The helm station houses a control joystick and two touch-screens that can be configured accordingly to owners’ needs. Moving abaft there’s the kitchenette, where the support of the carbon fiber T-top is located. There is then another sunbathing area, and the cockpit with two settees facing each other and a table in the center. By the transom the swim platform has a shower and a retractable ladder/gangway. As mentioned, a garage is provided to store tender, fenders and water toys or gear.
In the engine room of Solaris Power 48 Open there’s a couple of Volvo Penta IPS 600 or 650, with the latter option capable of pushing the boat over 35 knots. Cruising at an average 20 knots, the range is about 300 miles.
Solaris Power 48′ Open will debut, along the larger sibling, at Cannes Yachting Festival.
