Pardo 50, here’s our test in bad conditions

We had a first contact some weeks ago, but now it’s the real deal: we put on test the new Italian 50-feeter. Let’s discover how Pardo 50 behaved.

What a pity that the weather is so bad. Really? Cantiere del Pardo knows how to build boats, and we are sure that Pardo 50 will get along very well even on this occasion. The only regret is not being able to test it in a more relaxed situation, like in the photos taken in Miami. No relax and no top speed then, but a cool trial.

Pardo 50, the test

We are in the Gulf of Trieste, the bora blows (northeastern strong and cold wind) with gusts over 35 knots and a short and sharp wave, almost like a lake. As we move away from the coast it turns into a chopped sea. Pardo 50 does not seem to care, also because it’s pushed by the largest engines available: Volvo Penta IPS800. The boat faces the sea in all directions with great ease, highlighting a safe and soft cross on the wave and an excellent stability also while turning.

It’s 10 of us on board, plus a tender in the garage to add weight in the back. Luckily we have the Interceptor trim adjusters so we can manually find the right setup.

The result is a top speed of 35 knots, two more than the previous short test we had, while the slowest plane is at 14 knots and 1800 rpm, for a fuel consumption of 96 l/h. Even if on such a large and classy boat it doesn’t count much, we check the acceleration and read seven seconds to plane and 35 seconds to reach 32 knots. Not bad at all for the kind of craft.

Pardo 50: on board

The project of Pardo 50 is signed once again by Zuccheri Yacht Design, in collaboration with the technical office of Cantiere del Pardo. We find the known straight and essential lines, and the signature (for Pardo Yachts) reverse bow, and the walkaround layout of the deck. A solution which hides from outside the deckhouse covering the vast area belowdecks: two cabins, an optional crew quarter, and two heads.

Pardo 38: the fast cruiser can be glamour

Pardo 43 is the debut of a 44-year-old brand

Actually, according to the project the owner’s bed is located abow and the guest one to aft, in the same large space, but the yard offers an optional bulkhead so the fore berth becomes a separate cabin.

It must be said that the extreme search for essential external lines sacrifices the portholes; so the brightness and ventilation of the cabins are guaranteed by the small windows on the sides of the deckhouse. Unfortunately, these don’t provide a view on the sea. Still, if you look at the philosophy of the project, on this boat most of the time will be lived outside.
