It’s no secret that Andrea Bocelli is fond of boating. After several yachts, even larger and faster, this time he went for a displacing 22 meter Gamma 20, dubbing her Libertas.
“I love the way the space has been organized, so our big, extended family can spend time together, and feel the deserved privacy at the same time – says the singer. A yacht must satisfy precise needs and make us comfortable; more, it has to reflect technically and architecturally the same priorities as the people who live aboard. Coziness, warm materials, safety, comfort, low noise: these were my needs, and they were all taken care of. I needed a sturdy, safe and comfy boat, and I am much satisfied with my choice of a Gamma 20”.
Gamma Yachts is an Italian boatyard with headquarters in the Principality of Monaco. In cooperation with Vripack from Holland, they build steel vessels for long cruise navigation. The boat has to offer not just the technical equipment for any weather condition, but also large and livable spaces for all the guests and their long stay on board.
Needless to say, at this level the customization must be full. So Bocelli worked along with the shipyard even more than other Gamma 20 owners. For instance, he wanted a removable diving platform to be mounted on the back of the flybridge, so it’s possible to dive from the highest point of the yacht.
Inside, he went for the four cabin layout, and he picked satin oak for the joinery and natural oak for the flooring. But the top customization has been reached with the piano: not only the instrument had to be placed properly, but Bocelli wanted to feel insulated from outside and even have the chance to record, so the yard had to provide double glass windows all around the superstructure.
The designers with Vripack made thorough tests to grant the features of the Gamma 20 complied with the expectations from the owner. So they had to work a lot on noise and vibration, cooperating with the Dutch Company Van Cappellan Consultancy for the insulation and the tests.
Gamma 20 is designed and built in Holland, and thanks to the technology level granted by Vripack it has been built in just 10 months, using a process called Smart Kit that allows for shorter production time and stiffer build to reduce NVH (noise, vibration and harness).
The styling is on the Italian shipyard, of course, such as the level of customization typically found on super and mega yachts.
