A new model is just being finished at Rio Yachts facilities. It’s Granturismo 58 S, a custom version of the Italian yard’s flagship which will be launched in spring.
The boat is designed by Marino Alfani (some more of this cooperation here), an eclectic and creative designer capable of realizing the visions of different owners in customizing their boats: to the point that he has opened within his studio the “Made to Measure” division.
Rio Granturismo 58 S: an Italian flag abroad
Customization to its highest, beautiful design and the reliability of a 55-year-old boatyard are the features that make Rio Yachts well-known and trusted abroad. And it’s from United States that they received a request for a special Rio Granturismo 58 S
So once again, the model undergoes a style and design revision by choice of her owner. Already in 2014 another American customer wanted to go for a bespoke version. The new Rio Granturismo 58 S is longer (19.30 m overall to 17.87 of the standard version), as the owner wanted a stretched swim platform: maybe not a visual grace but sure a practical solution for him: beside a 4.40 m dinghy he needs to haul a jet ski.
This version is also equipped with bigger engines: the standard 715 HP Cummins have been replaced by two 1000 HP Caterpillar, for a reckoned maximum speed of 36 knots. Inside, new decor touches make this boat a true collection of the best of Made in Italy. Fabrics are Armani Casa Textile by Rubelli, the stone used for tables, bathrooms and countertops is by Antolini. Further elements of soft lighting complement the atmosphere of refinement of this Rio Granturismo 58 S. Then there’s comfort-related details, a field where Americans expect the very best. So, the boat sports impressive features such as gyro stabilizer, bow and stern thrusters connected to the control joystick, five electrically-retractable TV sets, extra large refrigerators and many other details that will be disclosed once the boat is finished. Outdoors, the bridge and the gunwales are completely covered in Esthec, a material that gives the same effect as teak but never changes appearance and does not require the care of this type of wood. The cockpit is furnished with a large L-shaped sofa which, as on all Rio Yachts, turns into a dinette and sundeck simply raising to the desired section. Another trademark of the Italian yard is the foldaway door which divides the outer space from the inner: when needed, it disappears into the ceiling connecting the two areas with uninterrupted continuity. Another nice living space is available to bow, where a C-sofa faces a large sun bed surrounded by a raised padding.
A peculiarity of the below deck is that it gets light also from above, thanks to the glazed sections of the upper deck. The layout features two double cabins, with the owner’s abaft sporting a king bed placed sideways, and the bathroom over the full beam aft of the room. The dining area amidships provides an L-shaped dinette and a galley cabinet on three sides.
Upon request the dinette can be replaced by a third cabin with twin beds, while a crew cabin aft with direct access to the engine room is also optional. Last but not least, the external shimmering silver-and-anthracite livery requested by the owner sticks to the same color of his private jet. This make us think of how Rio Yachts, despite not being of industrial nature (as it would be preferred in order to market around the world), can be attractive also for foreign boaters with an almost unlimited purchasing power. Give credit to the ability to work properly, and to the flexibility to quickly satisfy new demands from owners.
