Ocea Nemo 50 Ice, the new French yacht is a dream come true

The new, ambitious project that French Shipyard Ocea is developing in conjunction with their partners Aldo Manna from Ocea Italy and designer Fulvio de Simoni, is intended for people who have a big dream and want no compromises. Meet Ocea Nemo 50 Ice.

When most of the boaters dream of tropical paradises and sandy beaches, some prefer the white and blue shades of Ice in the Arctic or Antarctica. That’s where the idea of Ocea Nemo 50 Ice, a 50m megayacht with a gross tonnage of 499 GT, really started.
The Nemo 50 Ice – to be built in compliance with the requirements of the Ice Class rules – will feature an extreme, technical design as designer Fulvio de Simoni wanted to emphasize the DNA of the French shipyard Ocea. Whose core business is the design and construction of military ships: thus it’s easy to believe that half of the pleasure boats designed by Ocea so far have just sailed around the globe and crossed all oceans.

Ready for anything

Nemo Ice has been conceived to face deep seas at high altitudes while searching for unique landscapes. She should be the perfect yacht to explore places such as the Drake Channel or the Cuverville Island with its dark rocky mountains or the astonishing Danco Island, just to name a few. Every detail has been carefully designed to ensure that guests will enjoy a comfortable stay for very long periods of time and to optimize navigation under extreme conditions. For instance, tenders, rigid-hulled inflatable boats or landing crafts can be launched and recovered by using dedicated handling equipment: as a matter of fact, the Nemo Ice‘s cranes are exactly the same as those installed on the brand’s military ships to handle landing crafts h24 in full safety.

A technical area located forward on the “raised deck” is intended to accommodate the hiking equipment: the planking level in this area, which communicates directly with the Main Saloon, is less than one meter above waterline to ensure that guests can access the tenders quickly and safely.

The shafts, the props and the rudders
are integrated into structural skegs,
which will protect them should the hull hit
an iceberg or partially submerged objects

Engine room is a spacious, well ventilated area. There, every component, apparatus and equipment can be easily accessed for emergency repair by the technical staff. A 6 sqm, fully-equipped workshop and a control room fitted with all the remote-control systems needed to operate the vessel’s key systems in “manual mode”, are also available. Both the workshop and the control room are directly connected to the crew accommodations through a central passageway in the lower deck, in order to maximize the crew’s efficiency and convenience and to enhance guests’ comfort and privacy.

The shafts are integrated into dedicated structural skegs, which will protect them, along with the propellers and the rudders, should the hull hit an iceberg or partially submerged objects – this type of construction being a typical feature of all the yachts Ocea has built so far.
The guests’ accommodation area has been designed in order to maximize comfort during long stays on board: the owner’s apartment – a full-width design covering the fore portion of the main deck – houses a private lounge which can be used either as a relaxation corner or as an onboard office. The bathroom can even feature a sauna, if needed.
When travelling to far-off or unexplored lands, the crew plays a crucial role. That’s why they have large, efficient and comfortable spaces. As any crew sailing across the Oceans is made up of expert people – whether highly qualified technical personnel or explorers – their accommodations need to be designed and arranged with their duties in mind.

Ocea is currently building several military ships: the longest one – 85m – will be the largest vessel entirely in aluminum ever built for military purposes. Aluminum is just one feature of the Ocea brand, which is increasingly attracting world-wide customers and seafarers searching for new adventures.
