That’s how the Boatyard dubs it. In other terms, the superstructure of Fjord 44 Coupè is a complex dome made of glass, steel and carbon, totally black but transparent.
The Swedish boatbuilder is used to boats which feature contemporary design with a Scandinavian flair: essential and sleek lines, with squared windows and edges. The new Fjord 44 Coupè is no exception, adding the feature dubbed “arc-saloon”.
The superstructure encloses the deck on four sides, so the salon and the helmstation are protected in case of bad weather (or hot sun). Still, the structure doesn’t hinder the look: it is painted in black both inside and outside, and the pillars are as thin as possible.
Noble materials
The materials of the “arc-saloon” are glass, stainless steel, and carbon-fiber reinforced fiberglass. It should be pretty light to the advantage of handling, while there’s no doubt that the insulation regards temperature and noise but not the view.
That’s because it’s almost completely transparent, and it can open in so many parts: it sports two doors on the side decks, two electrical sliding windows, the large hiding door onto the cockpit and a power sunroof. In a minute you can be sheltered or in close contact with the sea.
The handrails allow safe movements around the perimeter, given the walkaround layout, while the foredeck is only slightly raised so it doesn’t hinder the aspect and the space outside, while giving plenty of light to the cabin underneath.
Talking of the deck below, actually it’s an open space: there’s no galley or dinette (they are both on the main deck), but of course there’s room for a heads with separate shower. Aft of the companionway the volume under the cockpit is a large storage space, which can optionally become a second cabin with bunk beds.
Fjord 44 coupé is powered by two Volvo Penta IPS 600 engines, which push it up to 36 knots.
A new swim platform with electro-hydraulic movement and automatic folding ladder takes the total length to 13,45 m.
