After 370, 290 and 240, here’s Ranieri International Next 220 SH: all the improvements of the new range and a Mercury V6 outboard delivering 200 hp.
Ranieri International’s choice of launching the new Sundeck range starting with the largest has proven succesfull.
They started with Next 370 SH then went down introducing Next 290 SH and Next 240 SH. Last in the range, here comes Ranieri International Next 220 SH to complete the offer: seven meters and a great use of space, taking advantage of the solutions seen on the larger siblings.
The test
The first sensation as we leave the port, facing a fairly rough sea, is that the new 200 hp Mercury V6 is the right choice. Reaching 40 knots in these conditions is an excellent performance indeed, even if more normal conditions would also mean many more passengers and gear onboard. After all, it is not the top speed what counts. So we reckon a good figure for the fuel consumption, cruising at 20 knots: the readings are in the chart below. And even more so at 30, which is also a fun pace. And if you really need to sip fuel, get down to 11 knots and 2800 rpm: you will still be planing but the engine will burn only 16 lph.
The merit of such good performance come from the engine on one side, and on the hull on the other side. Despite some sprays on the deck, Ranieri International Next 220 SH can face any sea condition in safety. The only flaw I notice is at 3000 rpm or so: the boat doesn’t feel steady like it was on the rails. That’s why I do prefer to gain a thousand revs as over 25 knots the 220 behaves perfectly.
On boad Ranieri International Next 220 SH
In a recent interview, Salvatore Ranieri told us that the design philosophy of the shipyard counts on some pillars: outboard engines, hulls with redan and the so called Active Suspension System to join hull and deck. Of course the Next 220 SH features all these things, and adds a clever use of space to give the feeling of being on a larger boat.
The bow area is basically a large solarium that also covers the anchor locker; but can also be deemed a chaise longue, thanks to the long cushion that covers part of the deckhouse. The windscreen is protective without hindering the profile look, while the dashboard has enough space for the most up-to-date electronics screens.
The cockpit sports two single seats for driver and codriver: both can rotate and create a dinette in the cockpit. If you want a further sundeck, the system designed by Ranieri International allows you to mount it then to put back all the parts under the stern bench. The two side seats can fold so fishermen will have a perfectly neat space for their activity.
As for the cabin, it’s far cozier than one might expect: three berths (the third one is underneath the cockpit), a porta-potty and a fair amount of stowing space. Lasst but not least, we appreciate the quality of the finishes and materials. Check the gallery on top for all the images.
