Spring in Marina di Varazze is full of hype: from classic cars to regattas

The second edition of the concours d’elegance “Marina di Varazze Classic Cars” will take place on June 8 and 9, anticipated by a busy calendar of sailing events.

There is so much going on, but let’s start from classic cars. After a first successful experience, the appointment with vintage cars in Marina di Varazze will be held again. It’s an elegance contest for pre-1980 cars, cars which, starting this year, can be enrolled in the ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) register.

The fashion of vintage cars

Organized by Marina di Varazze in cooperation with the Club Ruote d’Epoca Riviera dei Fiori (classic cars club from Liguria region), “Marina di Varazze Classic Cars” confirms a successful “light” formula, with arrival on Saturday evening, and prize giving during Sunday. Also confirmed is the affordable membership fee, in order to have a large number of enthusiasts to get familiar with the event. The highlight of Sunday will be the parade through the city of Varazze, up to Cogoleto along the Lungomare (coastal walk) Europa, usually closed to traffic and open for the occasion.

On the other hand, there will be news in the award categories. In addition to the “Best in Show“, prizes will be given for the best cars belonging to the different decades: pre-war, 50s, 60s, and 70s. Finally, the “Public Special Award” will be delivered on Sunday, with the vote taking place on Saturday evening: only the cars which will be present already on June 8th will be eligible.
Registration to the event opens on April 15, 2019 until the morning of June 9, 2019.

Don’t forget the regattas

After the Winter Championship of the Ponente (Ligurian west coast), in Marina di Varazze is time for the season dedicated to “sailing for everybody“, with many initiatives. The new edition of the Festivela will be one of the main events, followed by the celebrations for the 100 years of Varazze Club Nautico. A crescendo of regattas and fun, that will have the peak in May with the sailing meeting dedicated to the boats that will take part in the “151 miles“.

On April 6 and 7 is time for Festivela and the 1st edition of Liliana Molin-Pradel Memorial. On Saturday 6 there will be the chance to book excursions at sea and enjoy special conditions for food and drinks in the restaurants and clubs of the Marina, while Sunday 7 the large “non-competitive sailing rally and on board cooking competition” will take place in the waters off the Marina di Varazze. The money collected with registration fees will be donated, upon the will of the Molin Pradel family, to the non-profit Foundation for Cancer Research of Piedmont Region.

On April 27th, the first 100 years of the Varazze Club Nautico will be celebrated with the start of the Savona-Varazze Championship – One Thousand Schools Trophy. The gathering consists of three events organized by Varazze Club Nautico in collaboration with LNI (Lega Navale Italiana) Savona and the Yacht Club Savona. The first regatta will take place on April 28th and on this occasion the “One Thousand Schools” Trophy will be awarded, in cooperation with Punto Vela Blu School.

Then the attention will shift to another important initiative: the “Route to Pisa” sailing on the night between 17 and 18 May. With start from Marina di Varazze and finish at the Port of Pisa, the event was born from the idea of taking together the several crews that usually set off independently to Marina di Pisa to prepare for the traditional 151 Miglia race. In this way the organizers have created an impressive sailing event and have ideally connected the two locations, Varazze and Pisa, further expanding the scope of the event.
