With six Mercury Racing outboards and 2400 horsepower, the Cigarette 59 Tirranna definitely stands out. At 72 miles per hour.
We wrote many times about outboard motors’ race for power, and we have seen many multiple installations way over the typical twin engine setup. This time we probably witness a new record: Cigarette 59 Tirranna is the latest creation by Cigarette Racing, and boasts a stunning six Mercury Racing 400R outboards on the transom. Which is, well, 2400 hp. Let’s watch this video of Tirranna off the Florida shores:
Power is nothing without control
Although Tirranna actually means nothing, it reminds of the latin word for tyrant. And what is a tyrant without power? In this case there’s plenty of power, coming from the sextuple Mercury Racing 400R. In order to control such a sophisticated setup, there’s the Mercury Vesselview user interface, which is capable of showing all six engines on one screen. As for the throttle controls, two levers can manage everything. And the steering pumps are run by two engines each, giving a redundant chance of handling control.
Cigarette 59 Tirranna is also about luxury, with features that include an aft deck summer kitchen, Poltrona Frau leather-finished interior, forward sofas to be used as lounge seats, a namely largest-in-class double curvature frameless windscreen, nano-particle coating for interior surfaces, and much more. Even in this case there’s abundance of power, although in other meanings: the audio system delivers an impressive 2400 Watt output, while electric (aka power-) controls move the cabin sliding door and the cockpit sofas which turn into a sun bed.
If you don’t like power…you can go for a quintuple installation of Mercury Verados 350 for a meager total output of 1750 hp
For a comprehensive walkthrough of 59 Tirranna, which explains much better than our words, watch this feature video:
Built in vacuum-infused composites and vinylester resin, the boat also uses carbon fiber for stringers, frames, transom, and for the whole hard top. To complete the technical features, it also features bow thruster and Seakeeper 9 gyro stabilizers.

We went for a little test: four Verados, 71 mph
Oh, and if you don’t like power…well, you can go for a quintuple installation of Mercury Verados 350 for a meager total output of 1750 hp.
