Lobster 53

Lobster 53, new expression of a classic

Designed by the young and promising Marino Alfani, perhaps the youngest designer with so many of his projects already in the water, the brand new Lobster 53 by Rose Island faithfully sticks to classic style.

Her name already highlights the guidelines and the inspiration: the traditional fishing vessels used in Maine to catch lobsters. All the project is aimed at offering a classic boat, with careful ergonomics and no indulgence to solutions that don’t belong to marine world.
As by tradition then the cockpit is split in two areas, separated by one step: abaft there’s a walkable, 5 sqm area, while abow the raised part measures 9 sqm and features a couch, an expandable table and a wet bar: it’s an ideal extension of the inside salon, well repaired by a retractable awning but still open air.

A glass door divides the salon from the cockpit, for an enclosed area of 23 sqm (248 square feet). The dinette can host eight guests around the table and is completed by a rational galley, while the helm station is on the port side.
Only concession to modernity, the diving swim platform: doesn’t hinder the traditional look, and offers the comfort of a smart solution for launching the dinghy.
The night quarters consist of three cabins: the owner’s stateroom is located in the front with private ensuite, while the two guest ones amidships are identical and can feature double or twin beds. The joinery is in solid pink cedar, with Honduras mahogany veneers and maple inlays made by master carpenters. Then again, despite on a 50ft the crew is actually redundant, this Lobster 53 offers anyway an extra cabin amidships, just before the engine bay, with access from the salon to starboard.

Aldo Gatti is the engineer behind the hull of the Lobster 53 (and many more), and he wanted to have a very efficient design for extending the range of navigation both at high and low speed. So it’s possible to cruise at a minimum pace of 13 knots, planing, with a slow cruise at 15 for a range of 450 nautical miles. Fast cruising is at around 27 knots, and top speed reaches 31.
