Versatiliy is the main asset of Parker 660 Open: many solutions and options, and an important role played by the new Evinrude G2 outboard.
You think open boat, and what comes to your mind is a rather simple craft, with clear deck and few accessories. Well, with Parker 660 Open it’s all the opposite: from the hardtop to the new Evinrude G2 three-cylinder engine, there’s a whole set of features that transform it from a fishing boat into daycruiser with a few, simple operations.
The test
The sea conditions are not ideal ones for a six meter boat, but for this very reason I am curious to see how the Parker 660 Open will behave. The first sensation is positive: maybe the sturdy hardtop, the very protective windshield, or the high gunwale: the navigation is sprayless and returns a reassuring feeling of safety. And what about the top speed of 34 knots, which come along with good results also in terms of consumption. The merit is split between the hull and the new three-cylinder, two-stroke Evinrude motor, equipped with a 19” Rebel propeller.
While we are on the subject of fuel consumption, let’s start with the lowest figure: at 11 knots and 2,800 rpm, we are still planing, burning 12 liters per hour. At a cruising speed of 21 knots the engine revs at 3,600 rpm and the number rises to 21 lph: difficult to expect more. Still I want to check everything, so I push the throttle to reach planing in 3.8 seconds and 30 knots in 14.
For the sake of photo shooting I perform a series of evolutions that confirm the seaworthiness of the hull and of the whole Parker 660 Open build. There’s no maneuver that can scare, therefore even the less experienced can rest assured: with Parker 660 Open matched to Evinrude K150 E-Tec G2 some small mistakes in navigation are forgiven.
On board
The wide list of options offered by the importer is fundamental to customize the Parker 660 Open according to owner’s needs. The model on test features many, starting with the central console with hardtop that I definitely like (have I mentioned it already?). To bow, the chances range from a totally clear one with just settees along the V perimeter, to mounting a central table, to having a large sundeck that also includes the seat before the console.

Moving to stern, fishermen will appreciate the supports for fishing rods and boathook inside the bulwarks. Again for anglers is the design of the cockpit as, in addition to the live well, it also sports two side retractable benches, to leave the area clear when gaming, and rod holders. The amount of lockers is good to find a place for all the gear, and the manual bilge pump is a special feature, while the easy access to the well-sized swim platforms allows to dive easily.
