Flagship of the Rio Yachts range, the 54 introduces new solutions for the interiors, thanks to a concept that merges the different spaces while keeping them divided.
Once in the cockpit, we are impressed by the size of the dinette: lower the center table and you have a solarium for three. Some steps forward and we encounter the dining area on the port side, well protected by the hard top. If the weather turns bad, there’s a tilting plexiglass structure that quickly closes the salon, separating it from outside.
The helm station is mounted on a tubular frame, cantilevered above the lower deck, in a way that the latter seems part of the salon.
Step down the companionway, and you encounter the galley, smartened by the use of stainless steel and LED lights. The owner’s stateroom is amidships, while the bow hosts a VIP cabin with rotating twin beds that can turn into a double one. The berths in the third cabin are overlapping but perpendicular, so there’s plenty of space above the low bunk.
The two guest cabins share one head, large enough to feature WC, bidet and a properly sized shower.
Rio Yachts Colorado 54 on test
Getting out of the small harbor we appreciate the maneuverability of the Zeus transmissions and the joystick control.
Once out, it’s time to release the power: in just 8 seconds we are in planing pace, also thanks to the automatic trim tabs. The boat turns quickly even in the choppy sea, and the impact of waves is good and not too bumpy. The lowest planing speed is as little as 11.5 knots, for 1,400 rpm and a fuel consumption of 55 liters per hour, enough for a theoretical range of over 400 nm.
